New York’s a major American metropolis with a lot of history. Whether you’ve lived here for 100 years or have never been, it’s always fun to see vintage photos from the early days and compare just how much things have changed… and how little.

Here are some fun old-school shots of the city, back when color photographs and google maps were mere pipe dreams.

If you know New York, you’ll recognize some of the buildings back when they were first being constructed.

The photos of Columbus Circle and the Dakota Apartments are fascinating, especially when you see how underdeveloped the land around them is.  Wall street has certainly seen some growth, regardless of the market.

The big city keeps getting bigger.  Just wait for the day when you’re lecturing your kids about how back in your day, flying taxis used to only cost 5 Ameros, and we didn’t complain about it neither.
